WHY MATERIALS
Our SILVER LINE premium sunglasses use plant-based acetate, ethically sourced metals, and polarized lenses—all selected for durability, comfort, and reduced environmental impact. From packaging to production, we design with sustainability in mind, so your gear holds up—and stands for something.
Bio acetate is a plant-based, biodegradable alternative to traditional plastics—crafted for comfort, durability, and a lower impact on the planet. Found in our SILVER LINE frames, it's part of our commitment to build better, longer-lasting gear with materials that stand for something.
UV400 protection blocks 100% of UVA and UVB rays, shielding your eyes from the most harmful spectrums of sunlight. Whether you're skating through golden hour or vibing at an outdoor party, every pair we make is built to keep your vision sharp and safe.
Polarized lenses cut through glare and sharpen contrast, making it easier to see clearly in bright, reflective conditions. Found in select SILVER LINE styles, these lenses aren’t just about looking good—they're built to move with you, wherever the light takes you.
HOW IT ALL COMES TOGETHER
Each pair of SILVER LINE sunglasses from SAD is made through a meticulous multi-step process that blends traditional craftsmanship with modern precision. From raw acetate to the final hand-polish, here’s how it all comes together...
1. Acetate Sheet Selection & Resting
We start with high-quality biodegradable cellulose acetate—a plant-based material made from cotton and wood fibers. We custom-select sheets for their color depth, pattern, and flexibility. Once cut, the acetate pieces are left to rest and acclimate to stabilize their moisture content. This helps reduce warping or shrinking later on.
2. Cutting & Milling
Frames are rough-cut from acetate sheets using a CNC machine for precision. Both the front shape and temple arms are carved out during this process. The pieces are still raw at this point, with sharp edges and an unfinished surface.
3. Frame Shaping & Detailing
Next, the frames are shaped by hand to refine curves and ensure a smooth fit. Details like lens grooves, hinge pockets, and bevels are added with hand tools and finishing machines.
4. Tumble Polishing
Frames go through a multi-stage tumbling process—starting with coarse wood chips and polishing compound, and ending with fine soft chips. This softens sharp edges, removes scratches, and starts the deep polish. The last stage of polishing, frames are in a continuous tumble for 7 days, going 24 hours a day.
5. Hand Polishing
After tumbling, each frame is individually hand-buffed using cotton wheels and polishing pastes. This step brings out the rich depth of the acetate and gives the sunglasses their final high-gloss finish.
6. Hinge Assembly & Screws
We use high-grade multi-barrel metal hinges, inserted alongside the metal core within the temple arm for added strength and durability. Hinges are then secured using heat-set rivets or screws, depending on the frame design. Once installed, temples are matched, aligned, and adjusted by hand for a smooth, even open/close action.
7. Lens Cutting & Insertion
Our lenses—are custom-cut and inserted into each frame. We ensure a tight fit and perfect alignment for visual clarity and comfort.
8. Quality Check & Packing
Every pair goes through a final hand inspection for alignment, polish, hinge tension, and lens clarity. Approved frames are then cleaned, bagged, and packaged with care—ready to ship.
